Obaseki: If Oshiomhole Continues to Unleash His Lions, We Will Have No Mercy on Him.

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that he had no intention of driving former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, out of town as he (Obaseki) threatened during the governorship campaign. Obaseki, who won Saturday’s Edo governorship election, however added a proviso: If Oshimohole continues to unleash his lions on the state, there will be no mercy for him. Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, defeated his main challenger, All Progressives Congress’ Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who was backed by Oshiomhole, the governor’s estranged godfather. Speaking Tuesday on The Morning Show of ARISE TV, the broadcast arm of THISDAY, Obaseki while responding to a question on his threat during his reelection campaign to drive out Oshiomhole out of town (Edo) if he was reelected, said “I have no intention to drive Oshiomhole from Edo, but if he continues to unleash his lions, we will have no mercy.” He said he would not want to say much...

Edo 2020: APC campaign council rejects result, accuses PDP, Obaseki of rigging

By Mudiaga Affe of Premium Times The campaign team of the All Progressives Party (APC) in Edo State has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate of manipulating Saturday’s governorship election. The APC, however, called on its members to stay calm while party leaders study the result and decide what is next. This came just as Governor Godwin Obaseki, the PDP candidate, received the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s final results sheet following his victory in the election. According to the official result, Mr Obaseki polled 307,955 votes to defeat his closet rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC, who scored 223,619 votes. John Mayaki, the chairperson of the APC Media Campaign Council, said the party has rejected the result, citing alleged strong-arm tactics. PremierTimes

Godwin Obaseki wins Edo State governorship election

Incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki emerged winner in the Edo State gubernatorial election.  By William Ukpe Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has declared Godwin Obaseki the winner of the Edo State gubernatorial election today. Mr. Obaseki will return as the Governor of the state for a second term. The results were declared by INEC on Sunday afternoon after the results were counted from all LGA’s on Saturday. Obaseki had 307,955 votes, which was enough to be declared a clear winner over Ize-Iyamu’s 223,619 votes. Obaseki took to his Twitter handle to thank the people of Edo State for their votes. He stated,  “Words fail me in saluting our teeming supporters who displayed immense courage in the face of threats, intimidation and brutalization. The collective will of Edo people made it possible for us to triumph over godfatherism. Congratulations to all Edo people. This is our victory!”

He said it is sad that such a glitch is being experienced after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had given assurances that such problems would be avoided. Mr. Obaseki is standing for re-election with the candidate of the APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu his closest challenger. The battle of who emerges governor of the State is clearly between incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. Pastor Ize-Iyamu has the backing of the former Governor of the State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who is the immediate past National Chairman of the APC.

Edo Decides2020: Results from Polling Units (LIVE UPDATES)

As voting ends in the Edo State governorship election, sorting and counting of votes is ongoing in various polling units. Results are also being declared at the polling units by the relevant  INEC  officials. It is the results at the polling units that will collated at the wards, which will then be transferred to the local governments before a final collation at the INEC Edo headquarters. A total of 14 parties are taking part in the elections although it is seen as a straight contest between Governor Godwin Obaseki of the PDP and Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC.
