WHAT IS LANGUAGE?

Language is an everyday term. Can you speak your language? What languages can you speak? These are common language questions. However, language itself is a method of human communication. So, It's a way we humans interact with others and in return, the receiver understands what the speaker has said. This can either be spoken or written. Language is usually valid when it consists of the use of words in a structured way. This method or system of interaction can be used by a certain community or tribe. (Itulua-Abumere, Flourish)

ESAN LANGUAGE 
Esan language is a tonal Edoid language of Nigeria according to Wikipedia. There are many dialects, including Ogwa, Ẹkpoma, Ebhossa, (Ewossa) Ewohimi, Ewu, Ewatto, Ẹkpọn, Ebelle, Igueben, Irrua, Ohordua, Uromi, Uzea, Ubiaja and Ugboha. Ebosele Godwin has produced part 1 of Esan language class that teaches the meaning of basic things and activities in Esan Language. For those who are from Esan Land but can’t speak nor understand the language you can use this free online resources to learn the language or for others simply interested in our Esan dialect. Like you already know, practice makes perfect. As you learn, challenge yourself by practising every day. Surely, you shall find pleasure in speaking our great Esan Language.

Godwin Obaseki wins Edo State governorship election

Incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki emerged winner in the Edo State gubernatorial election.  By William Ukpe Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has declared Godwin Obaseki the winner of the Edo State gubernatorial election today. Mr. Obaseki will return as the Governor of the state for a second term. The results were declared by INEC on Sunday afternoon after the results were counted from all LGA’s on Saturday. Obaseki had 307,955 votes, which was enough to be declared a clear winner over Ize-Iyamu’s 223,619 votes. Obaseki took to his Twitter handle to thank the people of Edo State for their votes. He stated,  “Words fail me in saluting our teeming supporters who displayed immense courage in the face of threats, intimidation and brutalization. The collective will of Edo people made it possible for us to triumph over godfatherism. Congratulations to all Edo people. This is our victory!”

HISTORY Ogbidi Okojie, Onojie (king) of Uromi (1857 – February 3, 1944), was a ruler of the Esan people in what is now part of Edo State in Nigeria, still remembered for his opposition to British rule. According to Uromi lore, Ogbidi Okojie was born in the seventh month of gestation, coming 14th in the line of succession to the Uromi throne. As an African monarch, he believed in his divine right to wield absolute power. Those beliefs motivated his opposition to British Rule, which led to his first exile to Calabar in 1900. In Nigeria, at the end of the nineteenth century, the old order was crumbling, yielding to the new British colonial system. After the Royal Niger Company transferred its territories to the British government, the latter expanded and strengthened its control, unseating the traditional rulers.
